Local Artist Receives School District Contract
Artist, Ray Gatica, keeps the old tradition of hand-painting murals and large graphics alive. Currently, he has been awarded the contract by North Forest Independent School District to hand-paint a variety of large graphics consisting of assorted college logos throughout North Forest High School. The art will not only act as stimulating, decorative graphics but are designed to create awareness of available colleges, while motivating and inspiring students to continue their education into local and state colleges. See samples of finished works.
Gatica,
has also hand painted and created large logos for other districts like: Katy
School District, Fort Bend ISD and other commercial clients like The TEXANS,
and the Houston SPCA, and private clients.
Gatica
still uses the old method of laying out the designs on the wall by using
the old pouncing method used by old sign companies, to transfer designs to the
respective surface and hand- painting directly on the wall using brushes and
rollers; sometimes he uses his
airbrush to enhance the graphics and murals. Some of his painted graphics have
been as high up as twenty feet in gymnasiums.
Usually, hand painting the graphics is required on rough surfaces, and
on block or brick walls, where vinyl graphics may not work.
